Vulci nature park
Orbetello is a Tuscan municipality in the province of Grosseto, located in an important nature reserve.
The small peninsula where it stands is surrounded by the Levante and Ponente lagoonswhich are very known for their sea.
This almond-shaped town is also connected to the heart of Monte Argentario by an artificial dam built in 1841.
The main resource of the inhabitants is fishing, in the shallow lagoon waters; while among the streets of the city village, we find very ancient walls, and monuments from the Etruscan period.
In the center of the lagoon, a pretty Spanish mill, and if you’re lucky even some pink flamingos;
will be the perfect setting while you enjoy some typical dishes of the area in the village of Orbetello.
The natural park of Vulci
The naturalistic and archaeological park of Vulci, less than 30 minutes from Orbetello, includes the whole territory where Etruscan and Roman cities once stood, including all of them the remains.
It covers 900 hectares:
among unspoiled nature, the canyons dug into the rocks of volcanic origin by the Fiora river which, after a small waterfall, widens into the Pellicone lake, the Mediterranean maquis and the small valleys where you can meet Maremma cows and horses.
It was ‘built’ in 1999, and allows all its visitors to take various well-signposted routes to see the beauty of nature or the archaeological remains .
Inside the park we also find the medieval castle of the Badia dating back to the 13th century;
which can be accessed from the Etruscan bridge called del Diavolo or dell’Arcobaleno, which rises to a height of 30 m.
There are also many activities: guided tours at night, trekking on foot or on horseback, mountain bike excursions, educational workshops and offers for school groups divided into itineraries dedicated to the different levels.
