THE LUMINARIA IN MAREMMA
On 16 June myriad flames ignite Lungarno in the magical night of Pisa. Right before your eyes will present an unforgettable spectacle. The Luminara is a special event that occurs every year in honour of Saint Ranieri, patron of the city whose relics in 1688 were placed in the Chapel of the Cathedral of Pisa. Already a few days before the Luminaria on facades of buildings, churches and towers are applied wooden structures, called "biancherie" which are meticulously filed about 70,000 lumini (wax or oil), which are then switched to sunset. The effect that comes from these silhouettes molded to enhance the structures of the buildings is really surprising. The panels decorate arches, cornices, windows, columns and create the arabesques of the architecture and bright. After imbrunire tremule the lights are reflected in the waters of the river and Luminara offers the viewer an almost magical effect. A touch of beauty is added by thousands of floating lights that are entrusted to the current of the river Arno. For the Luminara Pisa is filled with people and tourists who stroll along the streets and enjoy the show ecstatic. At the end of the evening all eyes are turned all'insù, towards the Bridge of Fortress, waiting to see the fireworks display that always gives beautiful emotions. One game stars sparkling draw filanti and waterfalls colored ends to midnight with strong rimbombano shots in the air and causing shouts of appreciation. The Luminara besides making a worthy tribute to the artistic tradition of Pisa is a particular event, in which the Pisans celebrate the arrival of 'summer. The day after the Luminara the fair is taking place in San Ranieri stalls with sweets, the antiques and all sorts of merchandise.
